Google Buzz is yet another silo.... why didn't they do it on top of Wave and allowing federation over XMPP ? I'm not buzzing at all...
Interesting read on Buzz: http://bit.ly/cEWGvD, federation is coming via WebFinger. I wonder how they will deal with privacy & security.
