If you have not followed the buzz over the last days, all the details in this article on techcrunch. In a nutshell:
"the company this morning unveiled what it was referring to: technology that essentially turns every computer running the Opera browser into a full-fledged Web server. Behold Opera Unite."
Personaly, I don believe in this model. I don't understand this needs to 'physically own' my data. Do I really want to run a server on my home machine ? To waste the energy of powering that computer 24/7 ? To impose my slow DSL speed to friends willing to see my pictures ? All this just because I want to 'own' my data on a hard-drive that may die anytime ?
No.
I want to 'own my data'. But not physically. What I want is the freedom to get my pictures back from the service hosting them (do you hear me Facebook ?), and this in an open format, using open protocols, so that I can easily migrate to another host or even save a backup on a local machine.
I want Data Portability !
