The end of the "mobile first" era?
Evolving from interface-based to intent-based interactions
Is this the beginning of the end of the mobile app era? Two strong signals, just two weeks apart, that would be unwise to ignore.
Meta unveils its AI glasses.: A future in augmented reality: information appears before us, when we need it. Interactions happen through voice, gaze, or a simple gesture. No more screens. No more tap, pinch, slide.
OpenAI launches its Apps SDK.: The user experience becomes native within conversation. No more buttons, forms, or menus: you simply express a need. And in the case of OpenAI Pulse, the agent anticipates that need and acts before you even ask.
From application to intent
We’re transitioning from interacting within an application to expressing intent to an agent. The interface dissolves. Conversation becomes the application. The platform is AI, not the browser or the phone.
As we plan budgets for 2026, this might be the moment to rebalance our investments: a little less on mobile app development, a bit more on conversational interfaces and intent-based interactions.
